Persuasive writing and the equanimity in Nordell's voice make the case that unconscious bias and discrimination are human tendencies that deserve closer examination and greater effort to remedy. The author shows how hospitals, schools, and other institutions enable discrimination by unintentionally enabling stereotyping, especially of men and women, racial groups, ethnic groups, and disabled people.
