Written in 1974, this scary story is just as relevant today--an amazing feat. Emma Galvin's outstanding narration adds to the timeliness. When Kit Gordy is sent to school at Blackwood Hall, she immediately senses an evil presence. She ignores her feelings because her mom and stepfather are on their European honeymoon. Galvin eerily portrays the sinister school, staff, and faculty, as well as the terror of the students as events become more and more mysterious. This plain and simple horror story is wonderfully devoid of 21st-century trappings. S.G.B. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
