      Each of these formulaic stories sets up an obvious dilemma and provides chapter book readers with a choice of three different endings. There's a choice of genres, too, within the series: action, mystery, "character education," and horror. Black-and-white halftone illustrations help break up the texts. Struggling readers may find these easy to digest but not inspiring.
